Birth Assistant
COMPENSATION
$200 - $300 per birth attended based upon experience and skill level
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY
A Midwife Assistant assists and supports the midwife in any necessary capacity as directed by midwives . Duties include: carrying equipment, cleaning, time keeping, charting on paper chart or EHR and assisting in emergencies. The Midwife Assistant may perform clinical tasks only at the direction of the Midwife.
QUALIFICATIONS
Acquire and maintain certification and practice in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Experience and training as a doula (labor support person)
Successful completion of unpaid fellowship with Wabash Valley Midwives to receive on the job training
Dependable, trustworthy, and honest
On-call availability

Office Manager
COMPENSATION
$16 hourly. Part-time position, approximately 25 hours per week, two in-office days with some remote work.
ROLE
Wabash Valley Midwives is seeking a dedicated and organized Office Manager to join our midwifery team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting families, enjoys working in a collaborative environment, and has a talent for keeping operations running smoothly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Managing client communication and scheduling
Overseeing office organization and records
Supporting midwives with administrative needs
Working with our outside billing agency
Helping keep the office clean, tidy and welcoming for families.
Ordering, organizing, and maintaining office, birth and lab supplies
Creating and organizing birth kits for clients
Cleaning and preparing birth tools
QUALIFICATIONS
Strong organizational and communication skills
Experience in office administration (healthcare setting preferred)
Comfortable with technology and electronic records
Compassionate, reliable, and team-oriented

Aspiring Midwives
DESCRIPTION
If you are an aspiring or new midwifery student who is interested in preparing to become a midwife in Indiana, you have two paths available: the direct entry route or the nurse-midwifery route.
CERTIFIED DIRECT ENTRY MIDWIFE (CDEM) STEPS:
Complete a MEAC accredited academic program with an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Midwifery.
Complete the NARM process (minimum 55 births as a student), sit for the NARM exam, and obtain the Certified Professional Midwife(CPM) credential.
Document additional birth numbers as required to obtain an Indiana license. A. 20 observed births
20 births as an assistant under supervision
20 births as a primary under supervision
20 observed births as performed by a physician
Create a collaborative relationship with a physician licensed in the State of Indiana and register with the Medical Licensing Board.
Obtain liability insurance.
Complete and document NRP certification, Healthcare Provider CPR certification, and a course in Birth Emergency Skills.
Complete the application process through the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIFE (CNM) STEPS:
Earn a graduate degree from an Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME) accredited midwifery program. If you are an RN and you do not yet have a Baccalaureate degree, you have an option of applying to an RN to BSN/CNM graduate degree program, which is a midwifery program that offers a "bridge" to a BSN for RNs who have Associate degrees or diplomas.
